LOCATION: Lander Middle School
SALARY: $49,875 minimum (based on 2024-25 salary schedule)
CONTRACT: 185-day contract, full benefits
START DATE: August 18, 2025

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold, or be eligible to hold, a Wyoming teaching certificate with an appropriate special education endorsement and must be highly qualified as a special education teacher. The successful candidate will become part of a special education team working with children who have emotional disabilities. The successful candidate must be willing to work as part of the team and with regular classroom teachers for the identified students in helping with emotional/behavioral needs and with academic learning. Other desired qualifications include: Successful experience working with middle school students; ability to differentiate instruction to meet the wide variety of student abilities and needs; ability and desire to work in a standards-based grading system; ability to work as part of a PLC in a collaborative department team; ability to implement RTI and PBIS concepts; strong classroom management skills; ability to be able to work with grades 6-8; commitment to teach to the established standards and benchmarks to ensure student achievement; good communication skills; willingness to assist by serving on school and district committees; willingness to be a team player; and the desire to grow professionally to better be able to educate our students.

JOB DESCRIPTION: This position supports students with behavioral needs and requires the ability to provide instruction in secondary-level curriculum. Candidates must have strong knowledge of special education laws, research-based instructional materials, response-to-intervention (RTI) strategies, and verbal de-escalation and restraint techniques (NCI). Responsibilities include conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) to identify the causes of behaviors, developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) with targeted strategies, writing measurable goals, monitoring progress through data collection, and adjusting interventions based on student needs. Additionally, the candidate must effectively develop, implement, and track IEP goals and paperwork. Collaboration with teachers and paraprofessionals is essential to support student success and existing programs. Strong interpersonal and public relations skills are required for working with staff and parents. The candidate must also be willing to participate in school and District committees and engage in required in-service activities.
