REPORTS TO: Executive Director JOB SUMMARY: The Business Manager will oversee and direct all general accounting activities including maintenance of accounting systems and standards and delivery of key financial management reports. SUPERVISORY: Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department. Oversees the daily workflow of the department. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations. Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required. At least five years of general accounting experience with at least two as a manager of an accounting department required. Current CPR certification through AHA or able to ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong supervisory and leadership skills. Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures. Proficient with Google Suite or related software. Proficient with or able to quickly learn the accounting software used by the organization. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization's financial strategy particularly as it relates to current and future business needs. Oversees general accounting department systems, policies, practices, and procedures. Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation. Oversees preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets. Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards. Responsible for tax planning throughout the fiscal year; provides information to CPAs for preparation of tax returns.. Audits accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audit. Presents recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies. Provides financial analysis with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements. Assists auditors, gathering and providing information and documents needed for inquiries. Maintains knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in the accounting profession; applies this knowledge to recommend and implement process and policy changes.
