Materials Testing Technician

General Responsibilities:

Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel). Communicate with project manager, client and contractor representatives regarding the construction site, project requirements, testing, observation, and inspection requirements and results. Transport material samples to the laboratory for further testing and analysis. Submit daily data and observation forms in written and digital format to FMT Project Manager. Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles and work areas. May assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites. Adhere to strict safety standards.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Under supervision of higher-level technicians or staff professionals, assist on tasks and perform testing and observations duties.

  • Provides clear documentation of findings and results.

  • Submits documentation and communicates results as directed by the Project Manager.

  • Will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility in work assignments.

  • Maintains assigned equipment.

  • Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.

  • Maintain a professional communication with client/client representatives.

  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

  • Ability to lift 40lbs.

Preferred Skills/Certifications:

  • ACI certification, WYDOT & Nuclear Density Gauge certification (obtained within 90 days of hire if not already certified).

  • Basic Microsoft Excel & Word skills.

  • 1 year Construction/materials testing experience

Wage: $22-26/hour; based on experience with end of season bonuses based on project profitability.
