“Jeffrey City Adventure Trek” August 10, 2pm-8pm
The Riverton Museum is hosting the Jeffrey City Adventure Trek for this Wind River Visitors Council Adventure Trek Series on August 10 from 2pm to 8pm.
Get to know Wyoming's most famous atomic boomtown, while unleashing your inner-shutterbug, and, taking in some breathtaking vistas! Join Riverton Museum staff on an unforgettable walk through the streets of Jeffrey City. Now home to a few dozen residents, and a welcome stopover for cross-country cyclists, Jeffrey City was once Fremont County's third largest town -- a bustling mining town complete with restaurants, bowling, movies, and a swimming pool. We'll learn the history of this town from its roots as a highway stopover called Home on the Range, explosive growth beginning in the late 1950s, to its ultimate decline in the early 1980s. We've even got some special stops planned!
On the way home, we'll take the scenic route just in time to see the sun setting on the whole county from the height of Beaver Rim! Bring your camera -- this trek is equal parts historical trek and photography workshop. Once it's all said and done our favorite photos from the trek will be on display at the Riverton Museum.
Reservations are required in advance. Admissions are $10 per person. Participants should meet at the Riverton Museum at 9am and be prepared to drive to Jeffrey City as a group. Everyone is responsible for bringing their own food and water. Participants are encouraged to bring a camera as well to take pictures.
