I saw in the paper today that John Cooper passed away. Having not seen John about town the past year or so I was wondering. I did not know him well at all, but I surely loved his way. John was friendly to the extreme, and it was beautiful to me. Some how he was the epitome of Lander for me. My first and lasting impressions of this town has been friendly. And John's presence in town, waving and greeting to everyone, I mean everyone, waving to cars, visiting his haunts, just exemplified that. I have more than once thought wouldn't it be great to honor him with a John Cooper's Day, where all observers would partake in over the top friendly greetings.

So I'll go out on the limb and propose that Friday, the day of John's memorial service, be a John Cooper's Day where we can exchange over the top friendly greetings to one another.
Most sincerely,
