Hatch Academy of Magic and Music to appear

The Lander Children’s Museum and Promoting Arts in Lander Schools have partnered to bring the Hatch Academy of Magic and Music to Lander for a series of school events, a public performance, a magic class, and a book signing. The Hatch Academy (www.HatchAcademy.com) describes itself as a combination of Hogwarts and Julliard, offering instruction in sleight-of-hand and violin performance. The Hatches, joined by their son, pianist Jonathan Hatch, will bring their unique talents to Lander March 14 through 16.
On Thursday, March 14, the trio will give assembly performances featuring magic and music from around the world at Gannett Peak Elementary at 10 am and at Baldwin Creek Elementary at 1:30 pm.
On Friday morning at 8 am, Richard Hatch will give a lecture on the Psychology of Deception to the Lander Valley High School Sociology class. On Friday afternoon at 2:20 pm, the trio will perform at the Lander Middle School.
On Friday evening at 7 p.m. the Hatches will give a 75-minute ensemble performance in the newly remodeled Carnegie Room of Lander Library (451 North 2nd St). Tickets to the performance are just $5 each, with limited seating, and can be reserved by calling the library at 307-332-5194. The performance, entitled Soirée Enchantée, promises an enchanting evening of music by Bach, Kreisler and Saint-Saens and magic by Punx, Vernon and Robert-Houdin. Also featured will be Richard Hatch's original presentation of the traditional Japanese feat known as "Nankin Tamasudare", which involves telling a story while creating images with 156 bamboo sticks. Rosemary will accompany the piece with performance of Michiyo Miyagi's The Sea of Spring. Richard's original story, Taro-san the Fisherman and the Weeping Willow Tree, has just been published as an illustrated, bilingual (English and Japanese) children's book.
Following the performance at 8:30 p.m., a free book signing will be held in the Lander Library Little Theater. Copies of the book will be available for pre-order and purchase at the Library and Children's Museum for $14.95, plus tax.
On Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to noon, the Lander Children's Museum (465 Lincoln) will host Richard Hatch’s Magic 101, a hands-on introductory workshop for 4th through 8th grade students. Learn how to create extraordinary illusions using ordinary objects. Cost is $20. Call the Children's Museum at 307-332-1341 to reserve your place.
Funding for these events comes from the Lander Community Foundation and the Wyoming Arts Council. Thanks to the Lander Library and the Holiday Inn Express for partnering with the Lander Children's Museum and PALS.
