Dan Eakin, Wyoming State Senior Archeologist will talk about the studies he has been conducting since 2008 on the Nez Perce National Historic Trail. The NPNHT is 1170 mile long path followed by about 750 Nez Perce men, women and children under Chief Joseph in an attempt to flee rather than be placed on their reservation of a greatly reduced size. The portion of the trail in Wyoming goes through Yellowstone National Park, the Shoshone National Forest, and both BLM and private lands along the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone River in northwestern Wyoming. The work was conducted to better document the trail route so that the three agencies can more effectively manage the trail corridor.
Dan Eakin will share his findings which include routes, events and artifacts that characterize the 1877 event. All ages are welcome!
