Wyoming Catholic College’s second Liberty Lecture this year will be “States’ Rights and the Future of Federal Tyranny” featuring Wyoming Catholic College president Dr. Kevin Roberts. The lecture will be held at 7:00pm in the Carnegie Room of the Fremont County Library on Monday July 14th, and is open to the public.
“Though federal power has increased steadily since the Civil War, that increase has accelerated over the past 50 years,” says Dr. Roberts. “The result is an egregious violation of the Tenth Amendment, which guarantees that powers 'not granted to the federal government by the Constitution, nor prohibited to the States, are reserved to the States or the people.' Considering that this amendment reflects the very notion of federalism on which our country was founded, the next 50 years needs an active political, and even cultural, response by state governments and citizens to re-establish the balance in power that is so crucial to our liberty.
The Liberty Lecture Series will continue in Lander on August 21st featuring renowned political philosopher and Wyoming Catholic College professor, Dr. Virginia Arbery, whose lecture is titled, “Constitutional Morality vs. Class Warfare: The Right Rhetoric for a Republic.”
The Liberty Lecture Series focuses on fundamental principles of our American Government and current trends in political thought, and will be held in public libraries in Cheyenne, Casper, Jackson and Lander during the months of June, July, and August. The lectures themselves will not be associated with a particular political party or agenda, but geared towards providing an academic analysis of topics and principles. They are open to the public, and all are invited to attend.
