Fremont Symphony Orchestra Conductor Rebecca Murdock has announced the annual Spring Concert program for Saturday, March 14. She said selections would reflect fantasy, legend, imagination and romance.
Murdock said the concert program includes works by a variety of 19th and 20th century American and European composers ranging from Kachaturian and Prokofiev to Schubert. The concert features two instrumental wind solos by Debussy. Central Wyoming College Director of Bands Jason Ogg will perform “Rhapsodie for Saxophone and Orchestra”. Central Wyoming College Adjunct Music Instructor and clarinetist Laura Ogg will perform “Girl with the Flaxen Hair”.
Murdock said the mid-March concert concludes the group’s 28th winter season.
She also said if area musicians wish to participate in the Fremont Symphony Orchestra, they may contact Assistant Conductor Garold Whisler at (307) 349-9353 to arrange an audition. Although there are no current wind positions open for this concert, wind musicians may audition for future openings. Murdock said for each concert, orchestra members commit to nearly two months of weekly Tuesday evening rehearsals at Lander and two extra rehearsals the week of the concert. Rehearsals for the next concert begin January 27.
The upcoming concert is supported in part by grants from the Lander Community Foundation and area businesses.
The 7 p.m. Saturday concert is in the Lander Valley High School Concert Hall. Concert tickets ($ 10.00 / person; $ 20.00 / family) are available at the door. A reception follows the concert.
