Dubois, Wyoming Museum Day Features Children’s Games, Historic Cabin Tours, and a Quick Draw!
Children’s games, historic cabins tours, a quick draw and silent auction, live entertainment, crafts and demonstrations are the highlights of the 2014 Museum Day on Saturday, July 19. The annual festival is held on the Museum grounds at 909 West Ramshorn St. in Dubois at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Museum Day is an annual event sponsored by the Dubois Museum and the Dubois Museum Association featuring traditional western craft displays and demonstrations by local artists and vendors. Many artisans will have items such as jewelry, beadwork, antler art, and photography for sale. Music will be provided by local musicians in the form of a “jam” session or “hootenanny”.
Some local musicians participating will be Ed Neal, Ellen Dudley, Sally Wulbrecht and George Johnson. Audience participation will be appreciated. The historic cabins will come alive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interpreters dressed in the clothing of the era will be located in each cabin and will share unique perspectives on local history. As part of the festivities, an old-time photo booth manned by Johanna Wells Thompson will be available as an experience of dressing in attire of the past. Have your photo taken as a fun memory to take home or to send to someone.
Local artist Gary Keimig will be doing a quick draw painting from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The results of his efforts will be sold at a silent auction starting at 1:30 p.m. with bidding closing at 2:30 p.m.. The proceeds from the auction will go to the Dubois Museum Association. Tom Lucas, a local artist, will be demonstrating flint knapping. The items he makes on site may be purchased.
Traditional homestead stew, fry bread and lemonade will be served free of charge beginning at noon. Donations appreciated. Hotdogs will be available for children 14 and under.
Locally homemade breads, jams, cookies, and pies are some of the delicious items that will be sold at the bake sale. Home-baked goods will be sold until the last item is gone. Do you have a fabulous baked item you would like to donate to the bake sale? Bring it to the Museum on Friday the 18th or Saturday morning the 19th by 9:30 a.m. Donations are always appreciated.
