About Us
NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) is a nonprofit global wilderness school that
supports thousands of students each year all over the world. Our school began in a small cabin
in Sinks Canyon, Wyoming in 1965 as the National Outdoor Leadership School. At that time, we
were primarily an outdoors skills school, doing our work in local mountain ranges and exploring
what it meant to teach leadership in the backcountry. Today, we are NOLS, a multifaceted
wilderness school headquartered in Lander, Wyoming with locations in seven U.S. states and
six countries, that supports thousands of students each year all over the world in both field &
classroom courses.
The Expedition Admissions department is responsible for guiding students through the
enrollment process from the moment they register for a NOLS course until they start their
course. The Expedition Admissions Supervisor (EAS) is part of the core department leadership
team. This position shares responsibility for optimizing systems and communication strategies.
This position supervises The EAS supervises Admissions Officers and supports them with
student service concerns, and serves as Acting Expedition Admissions Director as needed.

The Expedition Admissions Supervisor I is a full time position. In addition to the duties described
above, this position directly supports the Health Review Specialist in reviewing complex student
health forms.
The Expedition Admissions Supervisor II is a 3/4 time position—either a 30-hour work week, or
full-time nine months per year. In addition to the duties described above, this position manages
Instructor Course rosters to support instructor candidates’ application to NOLS’ instructor
certification program.
● The ability to develop a firm understanding of NOLS mission, policies, standards and
organizational systems.
● Ability to work effectively both in a team and independently to prioritize tasks and
problem solve department work to achieve student service goals.
● Strong communication with both internal and external stakeholders (phone, verbal,
digital), planning, and logistical skills.
● Administrative experience with focus in customer service.
● Collaborative leadership experience.
● Vision and experience in supporting positive leadership environments that embody
equity and inclusion for diverse teams.
● Initiative, flexibility, and tolerance for adversity and uncertainty.

● Experience with or willingness to learn Google Suite and customer relationship
management systems.
● Interest in assessing and adapting complex systems to improve student service.
● Supervisor I: Education or experience in healthcare or mental health, or related field;
Spanish language ability strongly preferred.
Leadership or Supervisory Duties
The EAS directly supervises a team of Admissions Officers, and oversees onboarding and
professional development for the Expedition Admissions Team. Independently responsible for
consistent and professional communication to internal and external audiences representing
NOLS. Works closely with the other NOLS Expedition Admissions Supervisor and the
Expedition Admissions Director. Functions as an integral member of the NOLS Expedition
Admissions Team.
30% Supervises a team of approximately five Admissions Officers, with potential for future
growth. Facilitates a growth-oriented environment in the Expedition Admissions department and
ensures opportunities for continued learning.
20% Works as part of the Expedition Admissions team to support all courses. Communicates
with students and parents. Works closely with location program staff, Operations staff, and
Marketing team. Participates in the phone queue and occasional evening or weekend on-call
phone shifts.
20% Recruits, trains, and evaluates Admissions department staff. Develops training programs
and seeks out professional development opportunities to develop and nurture high quality
customer service standards. Maintains training documents.
15% Manages systems that support student relationships from time of application to start of
course. Assists the Expedition Admissions Director in tracking enrollment data to improve
enrollment process and systems. Works with the Expedition Admissions team to evaluate
current systems and implement improvements as appropriate.
15% Health Review or Instructor Course Rosters:
● Supervisor I - Perform complex student health form reviews to support the Health
Review Specialist during times of fluctuating workflow, including communicating
compassionately and clearly about medical and mental health concerns and NOLS’
essential eligibility criteria.
● Supervisor II - Manage Instructor Course rosters by communicating clearly, effectively,
and in a timely manner with students about the enrollment process, including difficult or
sensitive topics such as medical health concerns and finances with tact, care, and

NOLS Headquarters, Lander, WY. Remote work is available.
