“Uranium District Adventure Trek”

“Uranium District Adventure Trek” Sept 12 8am

Join the Riverton Museum for this Wind River Visitors Council Adventure Trek September 12th.
You probably know that uranium mining and milling was Riverton’s most important industry for almost three decades starting in the mid-1950s. But did you know that the Gas Hills once had a population of roughly 2,000? Or that Jeffrey City was a bustling town of around 5,000?

In this all-day trek, we’ll be exploring the area’s most important uranium areas. We’ll walk around where this metal was first discovered in the Gas Hills. We’ll visit the locations of the Gas Hills’ three uranium mills, several mines, and some of its larger settlements, as well as some other interesting sites. After lunch at what used to be the Federal-American Partners village, we’ll explore the area south of Jeffrey City and the ghost town of Jeffrey City itself. Bring a lunch and either a dinner, or money for dinner at the Split Rock cafe in Jeffrey City

Cost for this trek is $50, and spots are limited. Transportation will be provided.
