“J.B. Okie Manor Adventure Trek” August 15 9am
Join the Riverton Museum for this unique opportunity to visit this amazing historic home located in Lost Cabin, Wyoming on August 15th at 9am for this Wind River Visitor Council Adventure Trek.
J.B. Okie, a sheep tycoon built this beautiful home in 1901. Okie first came to Wyoming to work as a cowboy in the summer of 1882 at the age of 17. That fall, he borrowed money from his mother to start his own sheep flock.
That first winter, he made many mistakes, but learned from them. Within a few decades, he owned tens of thousands of sheep, and had built an empire in the Wyoming sagebrush, which included this beautiful home.
The home is currently owned by Conoco Phillips, which operates the nearby natural gas processing plant.
Zane Fross, the home’s caretaker, and our tour guide has amassed a wealth of knowledge about the home and especially about Okie. Attendees are required to take the bus, which will leave the Museum at 9:00 AM.
Cost is $20/person, and seats are limited, pre-registration is required.
