We are local folks who believe in the value of buying from our neighbors and preserving our independence. Join us!
Two generations ago there were over 1000 farms in Fremont County that sold dairy products, and over a 1000 farms that produced and sold poultry. Today there are none. There were orchards and truck gardens, and all the services necessary to get that produce from the farmers? fields to the dinner table: Mills and dairies, creameries, poultry processors, breweries, bakeries, and on and on. A dollar bill that entered the county circulated between town and country, round and round, building a strong foundation for Fremont County?s economic base and quality of life. Today, our food is shipped to us in big trucks from somewhere else, and our food dollars are inexorably sucked out of the county.
One by one, citizens are waking up and learning that we have made a poor trade. Our economic independence, our quality of life, our farms and green space, and the health of our families are too dear an exchange for the convenience and cheap fare that the industrial food system delivers. Fremont Local was formed to help unite these citizens, energize our communities and rebuild our local food network.
Fremont Local is a non-profit marketing, education and community activist organization. We are engaged at every level of the local food network: producers, processors, retailers, regulators and consumers.
