    The City of Lander, Wyoming was established in 1884, incorporated by the Fremont County Commissioners on July 12, 1890, and became a First Class City on January 16, 1963. The City of Lander was named after General Fredrick W. Lander. He was a transcontinental explorer who surveyed the Oregon Trail Lander Cutoff.The current population, as of the 2010 census, is 7,487. The Wyoming Data Center has calculated the population to be at 7, 686 people in the City of Lander.

    Lander is known for its recreational opportunities, entertainment, relaxation, scenic beauty, business opportunities and just plain fun!

    Sinks Canyon State Park is within seven miles of Lander offering beautiful scenery and the mystery of seeing a river disappear into the side of the mountain. It also offers a great place for hikers and rock climbers to enjoy a beautiful view while they explore.
