Summertime Fun for Adults

Why should kids get to have all the fun?  In addition to our full lineup of youth classes and camps this summer, we also have a number of classes for adults, too - and we just added more!

Golf Lessons
Tuesdays, May 7 - June 4, 6:15 to 7:45pm. No class on May 14.
Mike Watson, LVHS Head Golf Coach, will teach you the basics so you can get out and play a round. This is a great class to help you get started or brush up on your technique.

Betty's Beginner Bikes
Saturday, May 11, 9:00am to 5:00pm
Join BICP and PMBIA certified instructor Stacy Wells for a day of fabulous instruction designed for beginner riders. Learn to be more confident on your bike in a positive learning environment. Have fun and get rolling, making new friends along the way! Sessions will focus on fundamental bike skills: bike/body separation, breaking and dismounting with some riding on the ASI trails. Students must provide their own bike in good working condition (full suspension with flat pedals recommended), helmet, water bottle. Lunch will be provided.

No-Till Gardening with Cardboard and Compost
Saturday, May 11, 9:00 to 11:00am
Make this the year you get ahead of those pesky weeds and give your back a break. Join Jonah Sloven of Sweet Hollow Farm and Ethan Page from CWC’s Beginning Farmer Training Program at the Alpine Science Institute Education Farm to learn how using cardboard and compost can help reduce weeds and build soil, without the use of machinery or herbicides. We’ll talk about Jonah’s experience with no-till gardening, demonstrate how this technique works, and tour the facilities at the ASI where we grow community through farming.
This event is free, but registration is required.

Fundamentals of Excel I
Tuesday & Thursday, May 14 & 16, 6:30 to 9:30pm
Instructor Connie Murray will show students how to develop their own spreadsheet or choose from templates that are available from Microsoft Excel 2019. These include calendars, lists, and bookkeeping. Students are encouraged to bring a flash drive if they want to save their work to take home.

Backyard Mushroom Gardening
Wednesday, May 15, 9:00 to 11:00am
Backyard Mushroom Gardening is a gardening class introducing intrepid green thumbs to the propagation of outdoor mushroom crops.  Join Nick Hunkerstorm of Uncle Sassy Farms to learn about mushroom life-cycle, components of mushroom garden beds, "seeding" a bed, monitoring growth, pest management, and harvesting. Students will leave with a garden kit (spawn, straw, woodchips, compost).
Cost: $40

Fundamentals of Excel II
Tuesday & Thursday, May 21 & 23, 6:30 to 9:30pm
This class is a continuation of Fundamentals of Excel I for those who want to expand their skills with Excel. Excel II (Office 19 Suite) will cover more advanced use of the spreadsheet program. Students will put together spreadsheets and workbooks using a variety of formulas and functions. Solid basic knowledge of Excel is required for this class. It is recommended that students complete Excel I before taking this class.
Cost: $50

Ethnobotany - Edible and Medicinal Plants
Saturday and Sunday, June 15 & 16, 10:00am to 4:00pm each day
This class will introduce students to important edible and medicinal plants. John Mioncynzki's expertise and television documentaries have gained him worldwide recognition. Come and find out which plants were important both as food and for medicinal use to the native inhabitants of this area. This course is a mix of botany, history and chemistry with hands-on plant identification. Students will meet at the Bruce's Bridge parking lot to study plants in the Sinks Canyon area.
