DESCRIPTION:Join us for a discussion about what all entrepreneurs\, small businesses\, and start-ups should know about intellectual property basics (IP). We'll discuss what the different types of IP are and how to identify them\, and why it's so important for any new business to understand the impact of IP on the business.\n\n\n\n  What is Intellectual Property (IP)\n\n  Overview of patents\, trademarks\, trade secrets and copyright\n\n  Key considerations in identifying what type of IP you need\n\n  The importance of establishing IP in a business\n\n\n\nSpeaker: Julie Revers\, Regional Outreach Officer\, United States Patent & Trademark Office\n\n\n\nRocky Mountain Regional Outreach Office\n\n\n\nAs the Regional Outreach Officer since December 2018\, Julie is responsible for directing the Outreach program for the Rocky Mountain United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).Focusing on nine states within this region and actively engaging with the community\, Julie is dedicated to the USPTO's mission of furthering effective IP protection for U.S. innovators and entrepreneurs\, and providing training\, education\, and capacity building programs designed to foster respect for IP and encourage the development of strong IP enforcement. More specifically\, her focus within the Rocky Mountain region includes connecting with businesses\, IP owners\, andentrepreneurs\; building and developing relationships with SBDCs\, Accelerators\, and regional SBAs\; STEM programming\, TechHubs\, military groups\, independent inventors\, universities\, large corporations\, and the legal community. Julie also focuses on increasing community engagement through customer interactions and working with regional Patent and Trademark Resource Centers (PTRCs)\, and regional Pro Bono programs. Educating stakeholders about the USPTO and the Agency's resources is one of the most enjoyable and important aspects of her role. She develops\, plans and schedules speaking engagements for the USPTO's Rocky Mountain Regional Director\, Assistant Regional Director\, and herself\, at major conferences\, stakeholder meetings\, roundtable events\, community forums and more. Julie also leads a team of outreach advisors in IP trainings and consultations\, and provides overall guidance in working with the USPTO.
