SUMMARY:The Road Not Taken art show opens Nov. 1
DESCRIPTION:The Lander Art Center will open The National Juried Show: The Road Not Taken Friday\, November 1\, 2013 from 6-8pm at the Lander Art Center. \n\nThis year's juried show theme centers around the well known 1916 poem by Robert Frost\, The Road Not Taken. Poetry and the visual arts can have the similar ability to evoke thought\, reflection\, and emotion. This year's theme\, The Road Not Taken poem was explored as a whole or focused aspect by the artist. Thirty-eight artists from around Wyoming and the country submitted up to three works of art. A total of 78 pieces were submitted. From these 78\, select juror\, Chris Amend choose 40 pieces from 28 different artists for this year's 2014 show.\n\nChris Amend's statement on the juror process for this year's show:\n\nI look\, first\, for visual impact. I am drawn to structure: to a satisfying arrangement of visual rhythm and rhyme\, to an integration of underlying structure with surface texture\, color\, et cetera. I find good drawing irresistible.\n\nSecond\, I look for meaning. I am drawn to narrative\; I find drama and whimsy equally compelling. I look for clarity\, but find mystery perhaps more satisfying. For purposes of this show\, I have chosen both literal and metaphoric associations with the poem.\n\nI value deliberation over spontaneity\, adventure over certainty\, and poetry over prose. -Chris Amend\n\nAmend is a Wyoming native and Wyoming Arts Council's Roster Artist. He lives with his family in Gillette\, where he taught art for 29 years\, retiring in 2007. He has exhibited his work from Wyoming to New York and Paris\, and has work in private collections throughout the United States.\n\nHe will do a final in person judging to determine 1st\, 2nd and 3rd place awards with cash prizes totaling $1\,000. Winners will be announced at this Friday's opening reception. Lander Art Center openings are free and open to the public.\n\nLander's 3rd graders have also participated in the show with a collaborative a fiber art installation also based off the same the Road Not Taken theme. \n\nExhibition will be on display November 1 - December 7. \n\n\n\nThis exhibition is sponsored by Snow Deep Designs.
